Wantaiyuan was founded in the 10th year of Emperor Xianfeng’s reign in the Qing Dynasty (1860) by Fu Yuanneng, a native of Pan’an County, Zhejiang Province, and Wan, a local tea merchant in Qiantang. Wantaiyuan Tea House was one of the top ten tea houses in Hangzhou in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. Its motto was “Jiahe Bande”.
